Bruce Rankine

With more than 30 years of solid accounting and business management experience, Bruce Rankine is a highly capable and motivated chartered accountant and business advisor.

Bruce has worked in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom.  During his career, he has developed experience in business services, insolvency and audit.  Today, Bruce uses those skills to assist Bullôt & Rankine clients to manage their businesses.

Bruce believes in being up front and direct with his advice.  He’s not afraid to tell you how it is – whether good news or bad.  Caring about the person you are – rather than just what you do – Bruce is prepared to challenge you not to accept mediocrity in your business.

His aim is for clients to achieve work, life balance to build and maintain “happy families”.

He thrives on professional development and the challenge of the detail in regulations that have an impact on his clients’ businesses.

With good networks, Bruce frequently rubs shoulders with people who influence the process of business and financial law-making and interpretation.

Bruce’s wife, Nancy, is involved in the early childhood industry and one of their three adult children is also involved in the education sector.  Bruce has a good understanding of the issues faced by those in the sector, something appreciated by our childcare industry clients.

Outside of work, Bruce is a keen cyclist, boatie, recreational diver and proud Holden V8 owner.  Living in St Heliers Bruce is never far away from anywhere in Auckland.

Contact Bruce to discuss how our team can solve your problems.

Diane Hutchinson

As an associate, Diane has a senior role reviewing clients’ performance with a highly refined eye for detail.  She often finds useful information jumps out at her, and enjoys the challenge of business advisory work.

Diane is always looking for ways to improve clients’ business performance and assists the team and clients with advice on identifying the best solutions.

Her career with Bruce Rankine commenced 24 years ago and her accountancy skills are second nature to her role.

With a life-long career in accounting, Diane has broad experience with a wide range of businesses and clients.

When Diane isn’t busy in the office, she gives back to the sporting community by volunteering as a qualified technical official for Tri NZ.

When she needs an indoor respite – you’ll find Diane reading and extending her artistic creativity.

She keeps herself fit by walking a few half marathons and general outdoor action.

Jeanette Taylor

Known as the director of first impressions, Jeanette Taylor is the operational expert of the team.

Clients will often first encounter Jeanette’s cheerful voice when she politely chases them for signatures required on meeting minutes or other business documents.

You will also meet her in person when you walk in the door.

Jeanette is very organised and pays close attention to detail to ensure administrative tasks run like clockwork.

If clients need to see an accountant, Jeanette is definitely the go-to person to avoid calendar clashes.

Out of work hours, Jeanette dedicates time to her family and much-loved Huntaway dog, and graces the dance floor enjoying Ceroc, Salsa, Rock n Roll and Ballroom dancing, as often as she can. To stay in shape Jeanette also attends regular Les Mills Body Balance/Yoga classes.

Esthea Smal

As a specialist in the early childhood industry, Esthea has a strong understanding of the business and compliance requirements of the growing industry.

To upskill in providing advisory services to childcare centres, Esthea regularly undertakes professional development. As the youngest member of the team Esthea spends a lot of time developing her skills and looking for new ways of solving problems.

Of course, being well-organised and having an eye for detail are both advantageous for her accountancy career.

Esthea enjoys the variety of work in the accounting profession and finds no two client’s businesses are the same.

When Esthea is out of the office she can be found playing netball, swimming, cycling and running in preparation for her first triathlon. She is naturally a competitive person and enjoys the support of training with her local triathlon club.

Esthea also likes to travel and when time and budgets allow – she loves to fly away on international adventures.

Natalia Pavlova

Natalia enjoys the challenge of working with clients from a variety of industries with a focus on overseas investments and potentially complicated international tax compliance requirements.

When it comes to international tax and business practices, offering this service in-house, makes Bullôt & Rankine a unique accounting practice.

Her experience was gained during her career with one of the Big 4 international accounting firms where Natalia was part of the specialist overseas tax team.

When clients talk to Natalia, they will immediately notice her Russian accent. She came to New Zealand 16 years ago to discover a new lifestyle and was won over by the country. Before coming to New Zealand Natalia earned raft of qualification and letters after her name including a Master’s degree in Econometrics.

Natalia has a great sense of humour and brings a lot of fun to our team time.

In her out-of-office time, Natalia is a willing chauffer for her teenage son who is typically busy with extra-curricular activities.

She also enjoys learning new things and chills out reading a good book.

Karen Stevens

Working as a senior accountant means Karen Stevens has a varied role with Bullôt & Rankine, assisting with everything from tax compliance to business advisory services.

Many of Karen’s clients are medium-sized businesses and she works closely with clients at every stage of the business relationship.

This can include establishing good business habits when a new business is launched through to using the latest technology to better understand financial performance.

Karen enjoys making a difference for clients and helping to improve their business by passing on her expertise, especially when greater efficiencies can be achieved.

Having worked in the accounting industry since she was a teenager, Karen recognises the very personal nature of the business and knows trust is exceptionally important.

Karen likes to actively relax, spending most of her free time renovating her home and exercising her green fingers in her gardens. Yes – that’s plural. Karen has a home in Auckland and a Bach, which both have extensive gardens.

Jo Dixon

Many Bullôt & Rankine clients work closely with Jo as their first port of call when they need general advice about day-to-day tasks. When clients want to know what they can claim in a GST return, due dates for tax or technical advice, Jo is the go-to person.

Jo has dedicated more than 30 years to her accounting career and she has exceptional first-hand experience of the industry.

If she doesn’t have the answer – she knows exactly where to go within the team for the right answers.

Jo has tried to retire a few times – she keeps finding herself drawn back to her clients, Bruce and the team.

When Jo isn’t in the office you’ll find her fishing, either catching trout in the central North Island or snapper on the Waitemata Harbour.

Jo loves working with her husband Tony as a wine steward at various wine awards and competitions as well as walking and exploring other parts of the world.

Lynne Murray

There are plenty of businesses that need the hands-on expertise that Lynne Murray provides in her role as an accounts technician for Bullôt & Rankine.

Lynne’s specialist area is bookkeeping and she frequently manages PAYE, GST and FBT (Fringe Benefit Tax) returns.

She has always enjoyed being creative and Lynne’s work life is balanced with regular art classes and workshops at a local community centre.

Lynne was in the first Auckland woman’s rugby team and played mixed touch rugby and went on to win a gold medal at the New Zealand nationals.

Continued Education

Our team’s professional development can include anything from the latest international tax regulations to the newest add-on that is compatible with Xero.

Most of the accountants are chartered accountants, which does make a difference as they are qualified to provide higher levels of service to clients.

We all surpass the annual professional development hours required as a chartered accountancy firm.
